Casting Decision

Our auditions proved very successful in determining who we wanted to play each role within our film.

Two perspective auditionees dropped out of the audition meaning only four people auditioned rather than the previously expected six.

During the auditions, we first asked the actors to present their own interpretation of the scene using their own charactersiation, gestures etc. Due to the nature of the script, in most cases the female character came across as more dominant. The next time they tried the scene, we directed the female character to be more reserved and for the male character to be more agressive and dominant. This allowed us to observe how well each actor reposonded to direction.

Tayo O'Martains- We chose Tayo to play Mark as we felt that he put the most emotion into the scene and really gave it his all. He seemed very comfortable in front of the cameras and interacted with his partner- something that was not seen be any of the other auditionees. His partner expressed feeling genuinly scared when he was shouting at her!

Kirsty Dwyer- We chose Kirsty to play our central female role as we felt, like Tayo that she gave a very emotive performance. She also responded well to direction, showing different emotions and changing characterisation when asked. Her pairing with Tayo seemed very genuine.

Catherine Turner- Due to unrelated reasons one of our auditioness decided she did not want to take part in our final piece. Although Catherine did not audition we are aware of her acting ability from outside projects and know that she is capable of taking on the minor role of Nurse 1.

Matt Thomas- We chose Matt as Nurse 2 as we felt that his personality shown through his acting and this would help the audience realte to his character. We were also impressed that he managed to continue acting even after saying a line wrong.
